Post 6: Post-graduates studies

Well, I haven't thought too much about this subject because I'm just in my first year of Geography and I'm still learning about the career and its knowledge's areas, but, until now, the topic that I like the most is demography; so far, the only thing I know for sure is that I want to do a master and -hopefully- a doctorate course in this thematic area, because I would like amplify my knowledge about migratory processes, population distribution and the living conditions in cities.

Nevertheless, there is not a specific master program that includes all these topics, not in Chile at least. However, just for curiosity I was checking the post-graduate’s programs that the Universidad de Chile offers, and I found a master in urbanism and a doctorate in territory, space and society, and I thought that they were very interesting. I would like to focus in demographic studies related with urban inequalities and how the territory is occupied based on an unequal distribution of power that marginalizes a specific groups of the population; I would like to contribute in the knowledge about the construction of cities and try to improve in some way the situations of discrimination produced by the inequalities that happen inside the urban areas.

Well, as I said, I haven't thought a lot about post-graduate’s studies in the future because I'm focusing in my first year of college, but I would love to study in another country and expand all my knowledge about the urbanism topics and, who knows, could investigate in depth this subject. I have thought about study in England, because it has the best geography schools in the world, specially the University of Oxford, it would be a dream study there. Also, I have thought study in Spain, I don't know well in which college yet, maybe in the Universidad de Barcelona, but I have plenty of time to think about this subject.

  1. You definitely have time even to think about this topic, I hope that by the time you graduate you have more postgraduate studies but currently there are not many.
